Track Review: Megan Thee Stallion & Future, “Pressurelicious”

As Megan Thee Stallion continues to prepare her sophomore studio album, the Grammy-winning rapper has unveiled her third release of the year. Her first collaboration with Future, “Pressurelicious” follows the Dua Lipa-assisted “Sweetest Pie” and the Bulletin Award-nominated “Plan B.”

Produced by Hitkidd (“F.N.F.”) and Payday (“Rich”), “Pressurelicious” finds Megan and Future trading bars over a grimy trap beat — a departure from the sugary pop goodness of “Sweetest Pie” and the 90’s East Coast vibe of “Plan B.”

A standard club track, Megan offers familiar bars about her famous derrière (“Take a picture, shake my ass, now your nigga pressed to hit it, pressurelicious”) and her money (“Take a picture of my bag, now these bitches pressed to get it”). Outside of the objectively amusing Mario line (“I'm stompin' on hoes so muhfuckin' hard, I'm knockin' out Mario tokens”), Megan doesn’t deliver anything particularly new or exciting. In fact, she’s done this sound before on “Movie” from 2020’s Good News, a much better song than this one. Her flow in the second verse, however, is a nice departure from the relatively staccato approach she takes for most of the track. Structurally, the two rappers make the smart decision to go bar-for-bar with each other and rap alongside one another in each verse. Future, who is coming off of the lackluster I Never Liked You, dedicates a staggering seven consecutive lines to Adderall. Truthfully, that’s the only thing more ridiculous than the word “pressurelicious.”

Easily the least interesting of her three 2022 singles so far, “Pressurelicious” is remarkably average. The song’s blandness renders it passable, but forgettable.
